“Lonely Girl”

innocence_lost_by_jawshoewhah-d3dfczu

She stood on the side

on the edge

the noise the laughter

the touching and loving

looks.

Her head in the clouds

but heart on the ground

trampled

burned

trashed.

Misunderstood and lost

They flash a Cheshire smile

coldly reassuring,

their laughter echo in

resonance.

Empty halls push her

back

and

forth.

The clock taunts her

cruelly teasing the passing seconds

that

drown her.

They burn her with sticks

they light with

words

They stab her with knives

they sharpen with

exclusion.

But they don’t see how

she is fading away,

He does.

He passes her with a glance

words held under his

breath.

Hoping to see that smile light up her face

again.

It doesn’t.

She thinks no one is there.

He feels she doesn’t care.

She waits for her Whitehorse,

and cries over her

little black dress.

His fists curl over the thought

of that slick haired smooth talking

empty soul

holding her hand and breaking her

heart.

But she’ll never know

if he never

tells

her.

After all this time she still thinks

she is the only

lonely girl.
